GE-PON
is a transmission technology that utilizes
fiber optics and shares multiple lines to
realize data transfer rate of 1Gbps. This
technology is attracting attention as it
enhances the transfer rates of high-speed
Internet connection services by fiber optics
while reducing the cost by sharing multiple
lines.
GE-PON is standardized as IEEE802.3ah standard and is expected
to be adopted by virtually all carriers who provide optical
Internet services by 2005.
I. Security functions
*
Equipped with the function to encrypt the communication
data between the center device(OLT:Optical Line
Terminal) and the subscribers' terminals(ONU:Optical
Network Unit).
*
Equipped with the function to authenticate ONU.
II. Advanced bandwidth control capability
*
Equipped with DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation)
function that efficiently control the bandwidth
with low delay.
III. Basic design that allows to add 1550nm band
signals
*
1550nm band signals that are used for CATV can
be added to the same fiber optics.
IV. Highly reliable optic devices adopted
*
DFB-LD (Distributed Feedback - Laser Diode) by
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd is improved to
have higher output for this device to realize stable
communication.
V. Excellent maintenance and operation performance
and technical supports
*
Equipped with an authentication server connection
port and outbound management ports.
*
Web browsers, SNMP, IGMP Snooping, etc are
supported.
*
Manager/F, a GE-PON management software that
has past field records in ADSL, is also available.
